Modeling for the Putney Painters

I got to spend another day with the Putney Painters -- but no painting for me, today I was the model.

Below is Richard Schmid's start. He probably painted for 30 minutes total today, he was bouncing around between all the other artists, helping and instructing.

The best of the day was Nancy Guzik. Below is her start and finish. I really love those drawing lines . . .

Here is Katie Swatland and her final painting.

How fun! It's interesting that all three canvases in the first photo have virtually the same painting on them in terms of color and composition - even how the painting was started! Is that because these people paint together so frequently?

(I deleted my first comment to rewrite for clarity)

Cool! Did you get a painting of yourself from anyone?

Molly, I believe the two other compositions are so close to Schmid's because they wanted to match what Richard was doing, and see how he solved the same "problems". I would guess that it would be a great learning experience to keep glancing over at Richard's work and see where you were falling short.

Arto, No, I didn't get to walk away with any of them. I really liked Nancy's and Katie's, but didn't feel right asking a low-ball price for them . . . maybe someday I'll be able to trade with one of my paintings (If I ever have a painting worth trading!).

Greetings Ryan- I just found your blog and have been enjoying your posts. Sometime can you write about figuring out the value, and color notes, when starting a painting? I notice you are developing a color style like Schmid's. His paintings (Daniel Keys as well) look like they are bathed in the same morning light throughout the painting. It's such a lovely sense of color and light that I hope you will go into detail about it.
Thanks for all the good reads!

Hey Judy, thanks for checking out my blog. I would love to write a little about that, and will try and get to it in the near future. Thanks.
